February 2024 Update

IEEE Communications Magazine Feature Topic Issue: IEEE Communications Magazine is hosting a Feature Topic on Experimentation in Large Scale Wireless Community Testbeds: https://www.comsoc.org/publications/magazines/ieee-communications-magazine/cfp/experimentation-large-scale-wireless. Papers based on experiments carried out in PAWR platforms, including AERPAW, are explicitly highlighted in the call for papers. We would like to encourage AERPAW users to submit your current or future research to this special issue.

AERPAW AFAR Challenge Concluded: AERPAW recently concluded its AFAR challenge where an autonomous UAV was tasked to localize a rover on the ground. Some details about the challenge can be found here and here. AERPAW is planning to release a new student challenge in the Fall of 2024.

AERPAW OTIC Approved: North American OTIC in the Raleigh-Durham Research Triangle Park Area (AERPAW) is approved by the O-RAN Alliance! AERPAW OTIC is looking forward to contributing into moving the O-RAN technology further. Further information about the AERPAW OTIC can be found here. AERPAW OTIC is looking forward to participating in the Fall 2024 Plugfest.

Drone Operation Center: As part of closing out the second phase of testbed deployment, the AERPAW team is preparing to install a new Drone Operations Center (DOC) at Lake Wheeler Field Laboratory. The DOC will provide power, connectivity, and storage for AERPAW drone operators as well as a better line of sight for drone flights from the trailer’s rooftop observation deck. The DOC includes workstations inside, system control and safety features, floodlighting, perimeter cameras, and a thermal camera mounted on an electronically controlled mast. A video of the trailer can be found here.
